Jimmy Chamberlin to visit Lansing

by staff
Drum roll please … and now, heeeeeerrrrrre’s Jimmy! That’s Jimmy Chamberlin, drummer for iconic ‘90s rock outfit Smashing Pumpkins. Chamberlin will appear at Lansing’s Marshall Music on Thursday, Sept. 10, as part of a Zildjian on Tour promotional event.

Drumheads from around the region and state are expected to visit the store for a chance to meet the living legend. Word is he’s not playing any drums, which is a bummer, because we’d love to see him tear through “Silverfuck” or “Geek USA” without all those distracting guitars.

Brought up on rock ‘n’ roll and jazz, Chamberlin’s pummeling-yetexpressive work in Smashing P u m p k i n s on landmark albums, such as “Gish,” “Siamese Dream” and “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness,” helped Courtesy photo set the bar on drumming for a generation of hard rockers.

Also included in the event are discounts on Zildjian merchandise and a chance to win a free 16-inch custom cymbal. A member of the Zildjian family is also expected to make an appearance.

The Marshall Music event is part of a 20-city promotional tour for Zildjian. More information at www.zildjian.com.

The free event runs from 3 – 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 at Marshall Music, 3240 E. Saginaw St., Lansing. (517) 337-9700. www.marshallmusic.com.
