Eyesore of the week

Update

by Nathan Harris
Building: 226 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Lansing
Owners: Jonathan and Leola Watts
Taxpayers: Jonathan and Leola Watts
Assessed: $53,100
Owners Say: Unavailable

Our previous look at 226 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd earlier this summer found bullet holes and a red tag. But what change a few months has made. Debris still litters the property, but it’s trash produced by renovation, not neglect. The house is freshly painted, with paint cans still sitting on the porch and the sunny yellow color brightens the house.

A beautiful new roof, so recent that the boards the roofers stood on are still attached, caps all these improvements. The construction dumpster behind 226 is evidence of work, but there are still renovations to be made. First floor windows on both sides of the house are boarded up, and a second floor window and screen are broken. A rear section of the house has no siding, either due to damage or as part of an ongoing repair.

“Eyesore of the Week," is our weekly look at some of the seedier properties in Lansing. Whether it's commercial or residential, occupied or abandoned, let us know about that blight in your neighborhood! If you have a suggestion, please e-mail eyesore@lansingcitypulse.com or call Neal McNamara at 371-5600 ex. 17
