Schertzing campaign

Democratic candidate for Congress touts support from women

by City Pulse Staff

WEDNESDAY, July 23 — Sixteen women led by Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer formally endorsed Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing for Congress today on the steps of the Michigan Women’s Historical Museum today.

"We need and deserve real leadership in Washington, D.C.,” Whitmer, D-East Lansing, said in a prepared statement. “Leaders who are focused on finding solutions for the American people — not adding to partisan noise. Eric is just that kind of leader. He is a problem solver, a champion for women and working people, and I'd be proud to have his progressive voice working on our behalf in Washington. He is clearly the best choice for Michigan's 8th district, and I hope you'll join me in voting for him on August 5th, and again in November."

Said Schertzing: “I’m honored to have Sen. Whitmer’s endorsement, and the support of all the amazing women who are a part of Women for Schertzing. Sen. Whitmer is a powerhouse in the Michigan Senate, and a strong advocate both for working families and for women across this great state. I look forward to continuing to work together to keep Michigan moving forward, and I’m thrilled to have her standing beside me in this campaign.”

The other women who joined Whitmer at the museum on Malcolm X Street were MSU Trustee Diane Byrum; former state Rep. Joan Bauer; Lansing City Council members Kathie Dunbar, Jody Washington and Jessica Yorko; East Lansing Council members Kathleen Boyle and Susan Woods; Ingham county commissioners Rebecca Behar-Cook, Dianne Holman, Kara Hope, Carol Koenig and Deb Nolan; Lansing forester Irene Cahill; community organizer LaShawn Erby; and county administrator Desiree Kirkland.
