Hankins Gallery offers paintings by Svetlana Radovic, who was born in Montenegro (a constituent republic of the former Yugoslavia). In contrast to her previous work exploring separation, she is beginning to explore togetherness and familial relationships. (See story on Page 7.) Located inside the Marriott Hotel at 280 M.A.C. Mackerel Sky Gallery of Contemporary Craft presents “Moods of Michigan: Oil Landscapes by Jim Bignall.” Bignall is from Haslett and this show is his first formal exhibit. He’s a carpenter by trade and has painted for more than 20 years. Growing up on Lake Michigan in the Upper Peninsula, Bignall says, “I learned to appreciate and love the splendorous moods and great diversity of subjects that Michigan and the Great Lakes have to offer an artist. I believe that these majestical fresh water seas have the power to lift our souls.” Go see for yourself. The show runs through Jan. 20. The gallery is at 217 Ann St. in the Ann Street Plaza. Saper Galleries features steel mesh sculptures by Randy Cooper. Each of his figurative sculptures is hand formed from steel wire mesh he gets from the Czech Republic. After forming them into male or female torsos, he has them powder coated and baked to an extremely hard, durable finish. The sculptures look best when a light is positioned through the sculpture to create a shadow on the wall. The show runs through Jan. 31. Trillium Gallery features “Chaos and Harmony,” new works in watercolor and oil by Natalia Andreeva. (See story on Page 7.) There’s an opening reception 1-4 p.m. Jan. 6 and the show will run through Feb. 26. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Hours expected to change soon. Anselmo Gallery features Inuit and Northwest Coast Indian Art. Berry Herem of Seattle explores formline art in colorful prints to stylize animals and common legendary forms of Northwest Coast Indian Culture. E.J. Gamble uses a similar approach to develop sleek portrayals of the Indians whose legacy is evident in the art. The gallery is located at 3320 E. Lake Lansing Road, Suies D and E. Creole Gallery presents collages by Katherine Fishburn, an English professor at Michigan State University. Here’s what she says about her work: “In my art I use the techniques of flat and free-standing collage to create a startling combination of familiar images and found objects from high and so-called low culture, from da Vinci and Picasso to Barbie.” In her first show, Fishburn offers insightful constructions with narrative vignettes about the artists. Grand Café Sir Pizza has works by Leah Friedlis. She explores the lighter side of life with acrylic paintings and charcoal drawings of her favoritemodel, Maxi the cat. Her work was on display at the Creole Gallery during December. The café is open daily 8 a.m.- midnight and is located at 201 E. Grand River Ave.

Lansing Art Gallery features two artists in its Main Gallery and one artist in its Salon Gallery. In the Main Gallery is artwork by Jack Bergeron and Brian Bishop. Bergeron’s work is polychromed stoneware figures in an exhibit titled “Allegories: Personifications of Physical Phenomena.” Bishop’s display is explorations with digital and traditional media and the figure. Both Bergeron and Bishop teach at

Lansing Community College; Bergeron teaches figure drawing and figure sculpture and Bishop is a full-time faculty member who teaches computer graphics and foundational art courses. In the Salon Gallery is work by Marilyn Prucka. Her most recent series in collagraphs (a printmaking product) shows her experimentation with color layering and was inspired by the River Raisin in Monroe where she lives. The shows run Jan. 2 through Feb. 3. There will be an artists reception from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 6. The gallery is located inside the Center for the Arts building at 425 Grand Ave. in downtown Lansing. Otherwise Gallery in Old Town, along with Kresge Art Museum’s first floor hall and café and MSU Fine Arts Library, will offer a city-wide explosion of artistic expression by a caravan of artists from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. R Owings (formerly Todd Mack Custom Framing Gallery and Ganza! Cards Gifts & Art). The gallery doesn’t have a featured artist for this month, but will in the future. Stop and check out the custom framing, artwork, cards, gifts and interiors. The gallery is at 307 E. Grand River Ave. in Old Town. Okemos
Conifer Gallery of Okemos offers “Gallery Women,” watercolor and watermedia work in color, texture, and form by Karen Kierstead Miller and Christine Waugh Fleischmann. The gallery is located just south of the railroad tracks between Mt. Hope and Jolly at 4211 Okemos Road. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1-4 p.m. for First Sunday Gallery Walk.
