Creating an ‘urban village’ ‘Cohousing’ comes to Lansing’s Genesee neighborhood

When Michael Hamlin first heard of “cohousing,” he didn’t know what it meant. As a first reaction, the word made him think of a commune, and he knew what that meant. Hamlin was raised in a commune in Knoxville, Tenn., where his family lived together with four other families in an old mansion. Having grown up with seven other children in the same house, Hamlin said he was never really bored. “It was a very idyllic childhood.”

Last Wednesday, five of the six candidates for mayor of Lansing in the Aug. 5 primary election appeared on “City Pulse on Exposure,” a one-hour public service program on WDBM, 88.9FM, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

Bernero outpaces Benavides in fund raising for mayor’s race

State Sen. Virg Bernero, a candidate for mayor of Lansing since just May 12, has already spent more money than Mayor Tony Benavides has raised in contributions.
Campaign finance reports filed with the Ingham County clerk show that Bernero has spent $33,626.34. Benavides has raised slightly less, not counting the $20,000 he has contributed to his own campaign.

Lansing is blessed with a great library system. We encourage you to keep it that way by showing your appreciation at the polls next week. Your "yes" vote on the Capital Area District Library’s ballot proposal will renew and slightly increase tax support for the library system.
