It's Your Choice

Robin Ringleka welcomed guests to her Portland home for a party celebrating women’s right to reproductive freedom. About 10 people attended the party, one of 135 nationally. Rep. Dick Gephardt, D-Mo.,telephoned to say he is committed to protecting choice. A representative from MARAL, the Michigan Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, presented statistics and a timeline of events before and after the 1973 Roe v Wade ruling and discussed the importance of the 2004 presidential election, for which Gephardt has announced he is running. During Save A Life Day at Lansing Community College, Brett Telder and Kristen Wagner demonstrate the proper method to stop a person from choking with Choking Charlie, the mannequin.


Ethiopian music


Saturday evening, Temesgen Hussein, a Lansing resident born in Ethiopia, plays traditional Ethiopian acoustic music and love songs at Altu’s Ethiopian Cuisine. His instrument is a six-string Krar.


Victorian Age Days Celebration



Children dance around the May Pole, at Grand Ledge’s 6th annual Victorian Age Days Celebration. The weekend event featured residents dressed in Victorian-style clothing, horsedrawn carriage rides, spinning, quilting and rallying against the evil spirit alcohol.
