Local groups begin Iraqi relief effort
Local peace activists have begun to launch a fundraising campaign for Iraq.
"If we’re not able to stop the onset of cholera, there will be more deaths in addition to the thousands of civilian war causalities," said Okemos resident Shrikumar Poddar, organizer of the Greater Lansing Network against War in Iraq’s relief campaign.

Anti-war protest in the age of rapid conflict
Kathie Kuhn was arrested for the first time on March 21. “At a certain point I realized I had to do this. Morally, I had to do something.” The 33-year-old LCC student and 14 others were arrested for stopping traffic on Grand River Avenue in East Lansing — for a purpose. “It’s more symbolic,” Kuhn said. “Obviously my getting arrested does not stop the war.” In this era of wars that last only weeks, the question of whether protests and civil disobedience are effective tools to affect national policy has been raised.
