Lansing sizzles as a theater town
By UTE von der HEYDEN
When
it comes to locally produced theater, Lansing is no slouch. As a matter
of fact, for a city its size, this is one hot theater town.
Thats
the enthusiastic opinion of some of the leading voices in Lansing theater.
People like BoarsHeads John Peakes, independent actor-director
Ken Beachler, Riverwalks Bill Helder, Jeff Croff of Icarus Falling,
Althea Phillips of Lansing Civic Players, and Steven and Debra Carson
of the Bath Theatre Guild. Talking to them, you know theyre not
just being polite. This isnt PR talk. Its really how they
feel. This is one hot theater town.

Ducks and geese better scurry
Theres nothing extra terrible about September for the waterfowl
at Potter Park Zoo. For hundreds of ducks and geese that crowd the banks
of the Red Cedar River just south of the park, its only another
month in a long-term reign of fear caused by childish badgering and
other manifestations of zoo-yahoo ignorance.

Journal shortchanges readers
The good news is the Lansing State Journal was honest enough
to report that the state attorney general’s office says the newspaper
illegally charged its readers for its special section commemorating
9/11’s first anniversary.

Demonstrators call Fox News blatantly racist
A group of 25 people rallied at the WSYM-TV/FOX 47 building in
downtown Lansing on Monday to Resist Fox News and Media Propaganda.
The organizers, which included Direct Action!, Students for Palestinian
Human Rights, and People for Positive Social Change, protested against
corporate medias presentation of continued war as the only response
to the Sept. 11 attacks.

Everybody is addicted to something. My friend Jenni bites her
nails down to the tips so that theyre never longer than her fingers.
My sister talks on her cell phone so much that she developed an imprint
of the word Nokia on her ear. And my mom will never leave
the house unless her bed is made.
I too have an addiction.

Rally
for Peace leaves unsettled emotions
Those entering the Breslin Center at Gate D on Sunday for the
very low-key Rally for Peace with Jesse Jackson likely missed one of
the days mysteries. (There were more to come.)
