consequences of the USA Patriot Act on civil liberties. LCC President
Paula Cunningham reflects that she goes out of her way to understand

What’s all this noise about a party? Let me tell you.
We wouldn’t be throwin’ a party, essentially asking for money,
if the Lansing State Journal and its big daddy Gannett hadn’t announced
plans to start a “weekly alternative” newspaper in our turf.
Our turf isn’t Lansing; we know we don’t own it, we cover
it. Our turf is “alternative” newspapering. We are the alternative.
How can an LSJ/Gannett product be an alternative to itself? (One of
our close friends offered up the slogan: “Bored with us? Try us!”)
