One year after Sept. 11, Lansing Mayor David Hollister worries about the consequences of the USA Patriot Act on civil liberties. LCC President Paula Cunningham reflects that she goes out of her way to understand cultural differences since 9/11. Radio show personality Tim Barron thinks the average American Joe Sixpack has had to broaden his horizons.

What’s all this noise about a party? Let me tell you.
We wouldn’t be throwin’ a party, essentially asking for money, if the Lansing State Journal and its big daddy Gannett hadn’t announced plans to start a “weekly alternative” newspaper in our turf. Our turf isn’t Lansing; we know we don’t own it, we cover it. Our turf is “alternative” newspapering. We are the alternative. How can an LSJ/Gannett product be an alternative to itself? (One of our close friends offered up the slogan: “Bored with us? Try us!”)
