At a spring forum on environmental issues in Brighton, the Green Party candidate Douglas Campbell tried to present his agenda. He wanted to say that he favored building a 100-megawatt, municipally owned wind farm to avert a California-style power crisis and protecting the Great Lakes from oil drilling by promoting alternative power sources. And rather than giving General Motors $188.7 million in tax exemptions to build a new factory, he hoped to call for supporting hybrid vehicles.

Voices: Post-Cold War nuclear threat is still hot
The Creole Gallery was packed Saturday, Aug. 3, for Action for a Nuclear-Free World: A Day of Peace and Remembrance for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In introducing the program, Creole Gallery owner Robert Busby described the audience as “ … a room full of people dedicated to peace. Common sense tells you that you can’t achieve peace by killing people. It really doesn’t make sense.”

Among my father’s Oldsmobiles
A man who has owned nothing but new Oldsmobiles since the second world war ought to find a sympathetic ear when surrounded by more than 1,000 mementos of the second-longest-running love affair of his life.
