the winter arts season:
2002 brings wide variety of theater choices to area
Now that 2002 has made its debut, it seems like an appropriate time
to look at what might be debuting on Lansing-area stages. January not
only signifies the advent of the new year, it is also the kick-off of
the second half of the theatre season
and as in the past, it
should be an interesting mix of the tried and true, and the not-so-tried.

Wharton Center continues to connect New York, Lansing
The first half of the 2001-2002 Wharton Center for Performing Arts season
brought such popular and award-winning titles to the greater Lansing
community as ìBest Little Whorehouse in Texasî and ìKiss Me, Kate.î
The second half of the season promises to continue in that tradition.

puts dream-home plans in doubt for Clinton County family:
Three years
ago, Bill and Cindy Larsen purchased 50 acres of property in Watertown
Township in southern Clinton County with the intention of building a
home. But all of that changed when they found out they could have a

electronic computing and broke the Nazi code Enigma was among
other things an atheist. Interesting, though, the Catholic Diocese of
Lansing did not seize on his atheism as a reason for withdrawing permission
for the Lansing Civic Players to stage Breaking the Code,
the play about Turing, at Central Catholic High School this month.

Council revives plan to limit comment
Lansing
City Council members Lou Adado and Tony Benavides have changed their
minds and now favor ending the broadcast of public comment at Council
meetings, giving President Larry Meyer the support he needs to pass
the rule change.

likely to ban smoking at work sites:
The Ingham County Board of Commissioners will likely ban smoking in
all public and private work sites by the end of January. But some officials
within the county also would like to see tougher enforcement of smoking
laws in restaurants throughout Ingham County.
