FIRST SUNDAY GALLERY WALK
Discover the wide range of artistic talent in the Lansing area exhibited among these galleries and exhibit spaces. Join the growing number of visitors for this Sunday’s walk. Many locations offer a little food and drink so you can skip your Sunday brunch. From Okemos to Old Town, photography to performance art, there’s something for everyone.

EAST LANSING

The Art Apartment featuring "A Performance: Her Magesty’s Secret Bee Longings" by Leslie Donaldson. One-of-a-kind performance art and installation using light, sound, space, and time. Only one more show remaining. See it between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. The exhibition space is located at 210 Abbott Rd. Suite 18. (Look for the "Abbott Upstairs" door next to P.T. O’Malley’s and then follow the signs)

Hankins Gallery brings back Irving Zane Taran for another fantastic show. "Heavy Weather" includes new and select paintings from 35 years of "Earth Surfaces." Exhibit opens 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday will run till Nov. 17. An evening with the artist will be 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at 280 M.A.C. in the Marriott Hotel. Call 337-6366 for additional hours.

Mackerel Sky Gallery of Contemporary Craft presents "Pulse" by New York City artist Enid Wilson. This exhibit features her combined talents in mixed-media painting and drawing. Reception for the artist will be noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The show runs through Nov. 26. The gallery is located at 217 Ann St. in the Ann Street Plaza. Call 351-2211 for details.

Saper Galleries features John James Audubon (1785-1851) and his 50 best original drawings reproduced in high quality giclee prints. Located at 433 Albert Ave. in downtown East Lansing. Call 351-0815 for more details.

Trillium Gallery is pleased to exhibit photography by Doug Corella, musician in the local and now nationally known band The Verve Pipe. A mix of color and black-and-white, Corella’s photography captures images of America from his travels. Trillium has also carried over last month’s show "Home" with artists Gordon Meinhard, Kalli Halpern, Martha Brownscome, and Alison Corlett. The gallery is open noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at 207 E. Grand River Ave. in East Lansing. Call 333-3130 for additional hours.

Kresge Art Museum will be open noon to 5 p.m. Sunday during First Sunday Gallery Walk. The museum’s current display is "Rags to Riches: 25 Years of Paper Art from Dieu Donne Papermill." All of the works of art utilize paper made by had at Dieu Donne Papermill in New York City. Thirty-eight artists - including Chuck Close, Lesley Dill, Jim Dine, Robert Gober, Christy Rupp, Sandy Skoglund and Richard Tuttle – who have made art at the papermill were selected to celebrate its 25th anniversary with this display that begins its national tour in East Lansing. LANSING'S OLD TOWN


Creole Gallery continues its exhibit celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with artists Nora Mendoza, Jesse Gonzales, Robert de los Santos, Rosaura, and Theresa Rosado. This Sunday visit from noon to 4p.m. Show will run through Oct. 28 at 1218 Turner St. For more hours, call 487-9549.

Greater Lansing Visitors Center will have an artist reception for photographer David B. Mills during the gallery walk from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. His images include wildflowers, animals, and natural patterns in nature. Exhibit will run through the month of October. Visit the center at 1223 Turner St. Call 487-6800 Monday through Friday.

Otherwise Gallery presents Casey Sorrow and Debra Bonello for this month’s fine art exhibit. The gallery will also feature a live musical performance from two of the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra’s violinists from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Gallery is at 1207 Turner St. Call 371-4600 for regular hours.

Spiderhouse Antiques & Gallery continues its group show titled "Day of the Dead," running through Nov. 2. Explore this commission free gallery and wonderful antiques. Open noon to 5 p.m. for First Sunday.

Todd Mack Custom Framing Gallery and Ganza! Cards, Gifts, and Art welcomes Sandra Davison, October’s artist of the month. The exhibit, "Big Color," features large pastel abstracts rich in color, texture and shape along with digital print images. Reception held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the walk. OKEMOS

Conifer Gallery of Okemos presents "Michigan Walking" through Oct. 29. Featured painters include; Sally Swiss, Ted Matz, Joyce Grace, Jean Gamboe, Maxine MacLeod, Dana Ziebarth, and Sally Martin Stewart. Select pottery and sculpural work by Mary Humphrey, Gwen Schailberger, Honora Bird, and Rick Shapero. Gallery located just south of the railroad tracks between Mt. Hope and Jolly at 4211 Okemos Rd. Open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. First Sunday. Call 347-2425 for more hours.

Framer’s Edge, which as been in Okemos since 1999, offers watercolors by Richard O’Malley through October. The gallery is at 1856 W. Grand River Ave. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. For info, call 347-7400.
