Greg
Starks is a freelance policy analyst and advocate who has lived
in the Lansing area for more than 30 years. He grew up in East
Lansing, attended Bailey, MacDonald and East Lansing High School,
finishing in Mt. Pleasant before returning to MSU. While at MSU,
he served on the East Lansing Human Relations Commission during
the first Cedar Village public disturbances. Thereafter, he earned
his master's in public administration at CMU and then chaired
the Isabella County Democratic Party from 1991-92. He subsequently
left Michigan to work for the re-election of Jim Florio, then-Governor
of New Jersey. When he returned to Lansing he joined the Faverman
Group, where he served as Research Director for five years and
wrote extensively on state politics and policy. He currently chairs
the Lansing Cable and Telecommunications Advisory Board, enjoys
gardening and is the father of 5-year-old boys. This is his first
foray into the world of journalism.
