Weepers
CD release gig is Saturday at Creole
Area
alternative country band The Weepers will host its CD release party
at the Creole Gallery in Lansing's Old Town at 8 p.m. Saturday (tickets
$10 at the door). Featuring lots of fiddles, steel guitar, mandolins
and harmonies, the new release, called "House of Love," offers
14 songs that range from western swing to old-timey to bluegrass, all
with the band's inimitable 21st Century touch.
"On
some songs, you can hear a honky-tonk and celtic influences," says
Drew Howard, songwriter and singer on most of the tunes.
"You can even hear a touch of Italian folk music if you listen
hard enough." Howard plays acoustic and pedal steel guitar on the
CD.
Tahmineh Gueramy plays fiddle and sings. The album also features her
original song "Out of Here." Mike Cutler plays mandolin and
mandocello. Steve Szilagyi is on string bass and Pat Bills on drums.
The album
also features guest performances by area artists Andy Wilson from Steppininit
on harmonica, Mike Lynch from The Lash on accordion and Doug Berch with
his pennywhistle.
All songs were recorded at Glenn Brown Productions in East Lansing.
"Glen Brown has this great studio, with lots of cool microphones,
vintage amps, even lava lamps!" says Drew. "He helped us get
a great sound."
